Which large cap fund is best right now?

Answer refreshed with data updated · research, not investment advice

There is no permanent answer, but there is a current one, and the live leaderboard below is it: every large cap fund ranked by the FundLens Smart Score — returns, risk-adjusted quality (Sharpe, Sortino, alpha, volatility) and cost, each scored as a percentile against large cap peers only, and recomputed every time our AMFI data refreshes. Nothing on this page is hand-picked.

Large caps are the calmest equity category, holding India's biggest and most liquid companies. That makes them the usual first step from fixed deposits into equity, and the stability core of a larger portfolio. Expect a smoother ride than mid or small caps and lower long-run returns to match; three to five years is a sensible minimum horizon even here.

One caveat is specific to this category and worth more than any ranking: most active large cap funds struggle to beat the Nifty after fees over long periods, because there is little information advantage left to find in India's hundred largest companies. Before settling on an active fund here, compare it with a plain Nifty 50 index fund on risk-adjusted returns — if the active fund cannot clearly win, the index version owns the same companies for a fraction of the cost.
