Which mid cap fund is best right now?
Answer refreshed with data updated · research, not investment advice
There is no permanent answer, but there is a current one, and the live leaderboard below is it: every mid cap fund ranked by the FundLens Smart Score — returns, risk-adjusted quality (Sharpe, Sortino, alpha, volatility) and cost, each scored as a percentile against mid cap peers only and recomputed every time our AMFI data refreshes. Nothing on this page is hand-picked.
Mid caps are the growth tier — tomorrow's large caps, companies big enough to have proven themselves but still small enough to compound fast. That means higher long-run return potential than large caps, paid for with sharper drawdowns, so a mid cap fund suits money you can leave untouched for five to seven years and a stomach for volatility along the way.
Two things matter more than last year's return here. First, judge downside quality, not just headline gains — a high Sortino ratio tells you a fund grew while falling less in corrections, which is what protects you in this swingy category. Second, watch fund size: a very large mid cap fund can struggle to move in and out of mid-sized companies without moving their prices, so ballooning AUM sometimes dulls the very agility you are paying for. This is research, not investment advice.
